New Duckhenge

The footings are in for the new Duckhenge.  We've decided that we're going for a circle completely separate from the pond, but due North of it.  That gives us maximum atmospheric views of the sun and moon reflecting off the water of the pond.  It may have no theological justification, but we just love that kind of stuff.  And we can sell moody photos in the Beaker Bazaar as well.  And let's face it, when the old Duckhenge was placed around the pond we just all got soaked every time we had a ceremony between the "stones".

In line with the most advanced research into garden landscaping, and due to the prohibitive cost of sarsen, we're building New Duckhenge out of recycled railway sleepers.  It makes it a lot cheaper, and easier to rearrange when we decide that trilithons and horseshoes are so "last year".  Just don't go hugging them or leaning against them once we've put them in.  All that creosote may smell nice but it's carcinogenic and it sticks to your clothes.
For those who are interested in the finer theological points, the wide gaps between the sarsens - sorry, sleepers - are due south (for super photos as above), for the sunset on Midwinter, and sunrise at Summer Solstice, Kirsty MacColl's birthday, and 30 July.  The last of these being the anniversary of England's 1966 World Cup win.  We're aware that this year's final is on 11 July but we're not planning to allow for a gap there.  Just call it tempting fate.
